Take the Silk Route

Ask any Indian women what her saree means to her, her reply will be “it means the world”. And no woman in history has ever said no to shopping Silk sarees. The number of sarees one owns is never enough!

Sarees are popular because of their uniqueness, beauty and the reflection of the craftsman’s love for weaving! From having just traditional motifs, silks sarees have evolved to being a canvas, where the artist tries to implement new ideas and innovative techniques.

There will be a huge development in the designs if you compare your grandmother’s saree to your mother’s and your mother’s to yours! The transformation is massive but the interesting fact is that it is highly welcomed by women of all age!
New age women like their wardrobe to have a mix of everything and not just what’s trending. At Pothys, we have everything from ancient motifs like yazhi, manga, chakram to trending designs like ikat, chevron prints, and temple borders to a fusion of both!

Here’s a list of our silk saree collections.

Samudrika - Sankya Lakshanam

Our flagship saree collection - Samudrika - is the perfect choice for the bride-to-be. You can take our word for it, because it is not just any silk saree but a craftsman’s finest piece of work, crafted to sheer perfection with heart and soul!

There can be a range of options from which the bride can choose from her muhurtham saree, but sophisticated and esteemed attire in the bridal trousseau is Samudrika.

So why is our Samudrika popular with brides? Because this is the only saree that carries the virtues of the perfect Muhurtha Pattu! The virtues being classic, exclusive, unique, including traditional artwork, in a pure Kancheepuram Pattu Saree. Sounds compelling, doesn’t it?

Picture your wedding, where you’re dressed in our Samudrika collection looking regal and resplendent, stealing the entire crowd’s attention while your groom's sight fixated on you! What more can a bride ask for?

We all invest a lot in recording the important details of the big day, through invitations, photographs, videos etc.; the joy in revisiting the whole experience is beyond the scope of explanation. Pothys has come up with an innovative concept in making the big day extra special!! Presenting Sankhya Lakshanam - the rare art of weaving names of the bride and groom in the Samudrika wedding saree.

The concept has been welcomed by many couples and has set a new trend in Bridal wear!

This idea is not just for new, young couples but is also a good gift for couples who are celebrating their 20th, 40th 60th wedding anniversaries!! The concept has evolved from weaving names to important dates like- mother's or the baby’s name along with the seemantham date.

From weaving names and dates, we have taken this thought to whole new heights where an entire photograph can be woven in the silk saree!!!

Kamal Haasan was taken aback when he heard the significance and exquisiteness of Samudrika in an exclusive interview with our MD Mr Ramesh, even cracking a joke, “At this speed, Pothys can weave an entire movie in a single saree!”

You have heard enough about our Samudrika - Sankhya Lakshanam! Go ahead, visit our showroom to get one for yourself!

Saying that, we still see a majority of women stick to the regular style, owing to their hesitation to try something different and only a very few really dare to take the offbeat route!

With people all over the world experimenting with draping styles, abstract patterns, eccentric colour combinations, blouse designs, pairing with funky accessories... and the list goes on; why should one hold oneself back? After all no women is too old to stick to one kind of material, drape , colour or design! So go ahead, be playful and drape your way to a stylish new you!

To get yourself started in 2016 we have put together a few options:

Tussar silk, despite its slightly rough texture, is an ideal material to wear on a cold, foggy day! It is one amongst the many silk varieties that is stiff yet comfortable. Women who feel silk sarees are heavy-duty must check out Tussar Silks!

The Magic of Margazhi

The month of Margazhi which is also referred to as Dhanur masam, is of great significance, according to the Hindu calendar. Margazhi is welcomed by kolams, special early morning pujas, music concerts and keerthanams. And so, we can see the colourful kolams drawn by women at their doorsteps in the early morning.

The month of music, dance and drama officially starts today. But the music festival has already kicked off! The music festival which started off in a small way in 1927, for about 10 days has now emerged into something immense and starts as early as mid-November and continues till mid-January. Along with the ragas and melody, splendid silk sarees and tussar weaves adorn the Margazhi concerts. The kutcheris and carnatic songs get enriched with the ethnic look that the singers render to them. The performing artistes draped in the silk saree and decked up with jewel have a special place in every rasika’s heart. The endless conversations between the listeners will also include the type of silk saree, the colour and the border along with the thalam, ragam, swarams during the concerts.

Just as artists are coming up with new ragas and themes for rasikas of music, Pothys innovates and presents new designs and trends in silk sarees for the kutcheri goers. One just can’t witness the world-famous music festival and the Margazhi season without the rustle of charming silk sarees!
